Elearning

I'll let you in on a secret: the job I have now is not my dream job. Though with this present job I get a good enough pay and I get to have my own office, I am not really happy with it because this is not what I love doing. My dream job is related to arts. I would love to be in the field of web design & graphics. Yes, for years I have dreamed of becoming a web designer & graphics artist but I know that it would be quite impossible to achieve if I would just do the learning of how to become a good animator on my own. Since 2005 I have collected tons of books and videos that teach how to use different web design and graphics software. I learned the basics but I know that what I have learned so far would not be good enough for me to be hired in the field I want to be in. I know that I need help from the outside, I need to be guided properly and placed on the job.

Last night I came upon Learn.com, is an Elearning site. But it is not just a common elearning site, it is the worldwide leader in on-demand workforce development and productivity with more than 50 million end users around the globe. They have a wide suite of Software as a Service (SaaS) applications that can fully automate the pre-hire to retire® lifecycle within any organization. In short Learn.com will give professional training and then when you get the skills, they help you land on your dream job. I have browsed on their site and found the course I wanted, Web Design & Graphics - Building Your Site with Images. With this course I would be able to create color schemes, backgrounds, GIF transparencies, and imagemaps for a Web site. I believe that when I finish this course, I would be able to get more web design jobs.

How do meta geo tags influence search results? Well, Google's Matt Cutts has the answer:

Google Chrome Operating System

Google has just announced through the Google Official Blog something that could kill Microsoft--the Google Chrome Operating System. Here's part of Google's announcement:

However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we're announcing a new project that's a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It's our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

I am excited about Microsoft's reaction on this. This looks like the beginning of the end of Microsoft.

The Hummingbird Spy Cam

AeroVironment, a company that develops and produces Unmanned Aircraft Systems has unveiled the Hummingbird Spy Cam. This spy camera looks like a hummingbird and flies like a hummingbird. Pentagon has recently given the company $2.1 million to continue the development of the hummingbird spy cam.

As of now, the hummingbird spy camera model can fly 20 seconds at a time. This is quite far from what a real hummingbird can do but this shows that it is possible to build a robotic hummingbird that really flies. Pentagon wants AeroVironment to develop “an approximately 10-gram aircraft that can hover for extended periods, can fly at forward speeds up to 10 meters per second, can withstand 2.5-meter-per-second wind gusts.” If perfected, the hummingbird spy camera could be a a very good spy tool. Watch the video below and see how the present hummingbird spy cam fares.
